Introduction

The Mediterranean counterpart of the Manx Shearwater (which it closely resembles), the Yelkouan Shearwater derives its curious name from the the Turkish word 'Yelkovan', which means 'wind-chaser'. This is an extremely rare visitor to British & Irish waters.
