Introduction

Eastern Red-rumped Swallow is a very rare vagrant to the UK.

The former species 'Red-rumped Swallow' was split into its eastern and western forms in 2024. Whilst European Red-rumped Swallow is a regular spring overshoot migrant to the UK, Eastern Red-rumped Swallow is an extremely rare vagrant, having been recorded in the UK only twice at the time of writing.

Eastern Red-rumped Swallow breeds from India eastwards, through Southeast Asia to Japan and Korea.
