In autumn and winter, we tend to see auks flying rapidly past, far offshore, or bobbing around in heavy seas. These poor views, and the birds' less distinctive winter plumage, distinguishing Guillemots, Black Guillemots, Razorbills, Little Auks and Puffins can be a serious challenge.
